Oscar-Winning Actor Robert Duvall Passes Away at Ninety-Five
His spouse, Luciana Duvall, confirmed Monday that he passed away peacefully at their home, surrounded by loved ones.
“To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything,” she said in a statement.
Born on Jan. 5, 1931, in San Diego, Duvall later moved to New York to pursue formal acting training. He belonged to a remarkable generation of performers that included Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, and Gene Hackman.
His career-defining breakthrough arrived in 1972 when he took on the role of Tom Hagen, the adopted son and trusted adviser to the Corleone family, in The Godfather. The performance established him as a major force in Hollywood.
Across more than six decades in film and television, Duvall earned a reputation for subtle yet deeply compelling portrayals. He received the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Tender Mercies and was nominated several times throughout his career, including for his performances in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.
“For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented,” his wife said.
“In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all,” she added.
Details regarding funeral services have not yet been released. His family has requested privacy as they honor and remember his life and achievements.
