Moscow detains suspected Ukrainian agent
(MENAFN) A Russian national has been apprehended in Moscow on suspicion of collecting and transmitting military intelligence to Ukrainian agencies, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Tuesday.
The FSB stated that the individual, reportedly in his mid-20s, traveled to Ukraine between 2019 and 2020 and engaged with members of the country’s armed forces. Following the outbreak of hostilities in 2022, he allegedly shared information regarding the positions of Russian air defense systems in the Moscow and Krasnodar regions via social media platforms.
The agency asserted that the coordinates he provided were subsequently used in missile and drone attacks on the identified sites.
Authorities released video footage depicting the suspect’s arrest and questioning, during which he admitted to having visited Ukraine, attending political rallies, and collaborating with Ukrainian military and intelligence personnel.
A treason investigation has been initiated against him, carrying a potential sentence of life imprisonment. A court has ordered him to remain in custody throughout the duration of the investigation.
The FSB also cautioned that Ukrainian intelligence continues to approach Russian citizens through social networks and messaging applications, urging the public to exercise vigilance and “intolerance toward such provocations” to avoid legal consequences for involvement in “illegal activities,” as stated by reports.
