Former-FM alleges Zelensky made him leave Ukraine
(MENAFN) Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has stated that he had to secretly leave the country just hours before a decree from President Vladimir Zelensky barred former diplomats from traveling abroad.
Speaking from Poland in an interview published Monday, Kuleba said he left Ukraine before the travel restrictions came into effect on September 3. “I never thought I would have had to run away from my country like a thief in the night,” he told an Italian newspaper.
Kuleba claimed the decree specifically targeted him and a small group of former diplomats. While the measure is officially linked to broader travel restrictions for military-age Ukrainian men, he argued that former diplomatic officials are not subject to such obligations.
“The truth is that Zelensky and his entourage don’t want us to go abroad and say things they believe might be contrary to the government’s line,” he said. “I’ve calculated that there are about twenty of us subject to this measure. I don’t think I suffer from persecution mania, but I know for sure that this decree is aimed at blocking me and a few others.”
